Vacation
Bible School
July 7th-10th (Mon-Thurs)
Each
year for the last 5 years, we've been hosting Vacation Bible School. We've seen
years with over 100 kids arriving for a fun week filled with crafts, music, Bible
stories, games and a clear presentation of the Gospel. It has been fantastic and
God has blessed. But we've noticed something. It isn't bad but just interesting.
We've noticed that many of the children who attend are already actively involved
in a church. That's great! But is there an opportunity we're missing. Is there
a chance we can do something unique? Something that will reach a group of kids
who are not involved in a church! We think there is.
This
year we are going to do VBS as if we were Missionaries. We're going to go where
the kids are and see what happens. Rather than doing VBS at OBC, we're going to
take our kids, program, talents and gifts and host VBS at Golden Crest Apartments.
We will target this one Apartment complex right across the street from Blanton
Elementary School where several children live. Odds are, they would never attend
VBS at OBC, so we'll take it to them.
We'll
have a canopy for each station. We'll play games in the grass between buildings.
Build crafts outside their front doors and show them the love of Christ Jesus
in their front yards. It will be different and stretch our comfort zones but it
will be worth it. We might even host a BBQ around the pool on Thursday night for
all the families of the children who came! Wouldn't that be cool!
